S A National Standards
In order to achieve uniformity in assessing vehicle roadworthiness and operational safety, certain manufacturing specifications and codes of practice have been developed by the S A Bureau of Standards. Some are particularly important in that they supplement legislation by providing more detail of legal requirements. Indeed many have been incorporporated into statutory law.
Known as S A National Standards, each has an identity number prefixed by the letters SANS followed by the year of publication of the latest editon.
They are now available in hard copy or electronic format (at the same price) from Foresight Publications or the S A Bureau of Standards.
We have listed them in numerical sequence and, where appropriate, the old numbering system, which was replaced in November 2002, has been included in brackets.
For ease of reference they have been divided into the following groups.
Vehicle roadworthiness and vehicle equipment>
Transportation of dangerous goods>
Cargo securement>
Compulsory vehicle specifications>
